Mortal remains of Marshal Arjan Singh consigned to flames

Last rites of most decorated officer of the Indian Air Force Marshal Arjan Singh is taking place at the Brar Square in New Delhi. His mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honour.

Last rites of most decorated officer of the Indian Air Force Marshal Arjan Singh is taking place at the Brar Square in New Delhi. His mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honour.

The national flag is flying at half-mast at all government buildings in Delhi in the honour of the 98-year-old military legend. Arjan Singh, hero of 1965 India-Pakistan war, was the only Air Force officer to be promoted to five-star rank. His family has also planned a ritual for the funeral. Arjan Singh died of a cardiac arrest on Saturday.

Last rites ceremony of Arjan Singh, India`s oldest serving officer, begins at Brar Square. Defence Minister Namrata Sitharaman, Former PM Manmohan Singh follow the air force officers carrying the casket.

The Army gave a 17-gun salute to the Marshal. The IAF officers sounded the bugle before the cremation at the Delhi Cantonment area. 

Large number of digniteries including  IAF Chief B.S. Dhanoa, Chief of Naval staff Sunil Lanba, Army Chief Bipin Rawat, former  senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, and several former Service Chiefs, relatives, and friends were also present. 

The IAF`s Sukhoi-30 fighters in the "missing man" formation along with the Mi-17V5 choppers in  ..
