Dhanteras is a mixture of two-words. Dhan - wealth, ‘teras’ means the thirteenth day of the moon cycle. On this day people buy metals according to their affordability. It may be gold ornament or even a steel spoon. Offlate, the day has been hijacked by big brands and Dhanteras has become a `marketing` event.

This year Dhanteras will be celebrated on October 17.
