As the winter sets in across north India, there is a mild improvement in the air quality index that remained grave since weeks turning Delhi NCR into a gas chamber as called by Delhi state chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

At Lodhi Road, prominent pollutants PM10 and PM2.5 dipped to 288 and 289, even though smog continued to hamper train services.

The Supreme Court-mandated EPCA today withdrew the ban on construction activities, entry of trucks and enhanced parking fees from across Delhi-NCR as air quality remained out of the `emergency` category for the second straight day.

The four-time hike in parking fees was also lifted.

EPCA chairperson Bhure Lal wrote to the chief secretaries of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana this morning, directing them that the measures be lifted with "immediate effect" as the prevailing air quality does not warrant such tough action.
