Haryana, Delhi spar over Yamuna cleaning

CHANDIGARH: The Yamuna continues to be polluted as Haryana and Delhi spar over its contamination due to release of untreated effluents. Chief secretaries of both Haryana and Delhi were asked to monitor the pollution levels of the river. There are 45 STPs installed in Delhi and Haryana against the requirement of 69 such plants to control the pollution of the river. Delhi needs to work more seriously to tackle the pollution in the Yamuna. The HSPCB and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) are the nodal agencies tackling water pollution of the Yamuna.In Delhi, the agencies to execute this work are Delhi Jal Board and Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCB).In November 2014, the National Green Tribunal NGT ) made the task to clean the Yamuna as part of the ‘Clean Ganga’ project.
