HC seeks reports from Gurugram, F’bad DCs

The High Court had also taken cognisance of a similar matter of the construction activities within the restricted 900-m zone in Gurugram. The matter had reached the High Court after a public interest litigation was filed by Suersh Goyal of Faridabad. In pursuance to the directions, the Centre issued a notification designating Gurugram and Faridabad DCs as collectors under the Works of Defence Act, 1903, for empowering them to take action.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked Gurugram and Faridabad DCs to submit a report on action taken against encroachers, who have raised constructions within 300 m of the air force ammunition depot in Gurugram and 100 m around the air forces station in Faridabad. 

The direction comes soon after the High Court asked the DCs to issue notices to the encroachers for removing constructions to avoid action by the administration. In pursuance to the directions, the Centre issued a notification designating Gurugram and Faridabad DCs as collectors under the Works of Defence Act, 1903, for empowering them to take action. 

The matter had reached the High Court after a public interest litigation was filed by Suersh Goyal of Faridabad. He was seeking removal of constructions from 100-metre area around air force station, Dabua, in Faridabad, as it was a protected zone under provisions of the Work of Defence Act. The High Court had also taken cognisance of a similar matter of the construction activities within the restricted 900-m zone in Gurugram.
