GURUGRAM: Two nilgais were killed on Pali Road near Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in Faridabad after being hit by a car on Sunday morning. Road accident is one of the major causes of the death of wild animals across the country, including the Aravalis." The two blue bulls were thrown off the road owing to the impact of the collision, which led to their death. Death of blue bulls is disturbing the entire food chain. A passerby, Sukhi Kumar, said, "A car hit one antelope on an upper limb, while the other one hit on its neck.

GURUGRAM: Two nilgais were killed on Pali Road near Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary in Faridabad after being hit by a car on Sunday morning. The animals were crossing the road, said sources.An activist, who informed TOI about the accident, said, "The antelopes were found dead around 200 metres away from the sanctuary. The animals probably died owing to severe head injuries."Nilgai — Boselaphus tragocamelus — or blue bull is protected under Schedule III of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. A passerby, Sukhi Kumar, said, "A car hit one antelope on an upper limb, while the other one hit on its neck. The two blue bulls were thrown off the road owing to the impact of the collision, which led to their death."A wildlife official was sent to the spot after TOI reported the matter to district forest officer (Wildlife) Shyam Sunder. "I have informed a wildlife inspector to visit the area and take the bodies for post-mortem. I assure you that all the measures will be taken in the case as per the law," Sunder said.Blaming the department for lackadaisical attitude, Amit Chaudhery of People For Animals (PFA), Gurgaon, said, "We have reported as many as 27 deaths of blue bulls in the last one year in road accidents. But wildlife officials are just not bothered, and have not taken any measures to tackle the problem. Death of blue bulls is disturbing the entire food chain."Chaudhery also blamed the authorities for making no provisions for wild animals to cross highways and busy roads.DFO Shyam Sunder agreed saying, "I think that all national highways and roads passing through the forest areas should have such provisions for wild animals. Road accident is one of the major causes of the death of wild animals across the country, including the Aravalis."
