Illegal quarrying in Aravalis still on, villagers allege miners ‘paid off dept’

On Sunday morning, a fresh report of illegal mining was filed, this time near Greenfield Colony, a residential society near Sector 43, Faridabad. It was reported by some residents of Anangpur village. According to sources, illegal mining for stones has been going over an area spread across half an acre.The villagers alleged the miners dig the area every Sunday, despite several complaints to the mining department. "We've filed several written complaints to the mining department about the mining that go on in this particular spot. Last time we filed a complaint, the illegal activity stopped for a while. However, today morning, we again found an earth mover extracting stones from the spot and trucks carrying it away," said Vishal Bhadana, a resident of Anangpur village.Some villagers alleged those involved in the illegality have claimed they have paid penalties to the mining department."Whenever we raise an alarm and request the mining mafia to stop, they show us penalty receipts and claim the department has given them permission to carry out mining. They also threaten us and our families," said another villager, requesting anonymity.Despite making several phone calls and sending messages, district mining officer Sanjay Sabharwal did not respond to TOI's queries
