Junaid’s dad asked for Rs 2 crore, land: Cops

In a detailed reply to the high court through its counsel Sumeet Goel, the agency also said it is already burdened with the work and the case does not fall within the ambit of the Supreme Court guidelines for CBI probe of the cases. "In the recent past, a number of panchayats have been organised openly in my village, which are illegal and the direct objective of the same was to interfere in the administration of justice. CBI refuses to take over the probe:The CBI has expressed its unwillingness to take over the investigation on the ground that the matter has already been probed, chargesheet has been filed and the trial of the case is at a crucial stage.

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana police on Wednesday filed a fresh affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana high court claiming Jalaluddin Khan , father of 16-year-old Junaid who was stabled to death on a train in June, had asked for Rs 2 crore and 3 acres of land from the accused to settle the case while attending a panchayat in his village.The police officer, Mohinder Singh, DSP (railways), Faridabad, who filed the affidavit on Wednesday said he came to know about the demand from a "secret informer." The police affidavit was filed in response to the affidavit of Junaid's father denying participation in any panchayat for compromise in the case."I was informed by a secret informer about participation of Junaid's father Jalaluddin in the panchayat wherein he raised a demand of Rs 2 crore and 3 acres of land from the accused party for the settlement in the murder case," said the DSP in his affidavit.The officer also claimed it was only when Jalaluddin was exposed, the victim's father had filed a "false affidavit" before the high court, alleging pressure.Junaid was stabbed to death in a Mathura-bound train by some passengers after a squabble over seats. He was returning home to his village after celebrating Eid in Delhi.On Tuesday, 50-year-old Jalaluddin had claimed before the high court that "panchayats" were being organised openly in his village to pressure him to withdraw the case and the Haryana government had turned a blind eye to the tactic."In the recent past, a number of panchayats have been organised openly in my village, which are illegal and the direct objective of the same was to interfere in the administration of justice.
