Army veteran to HC: Union minister shielding encroachers

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday took cognizance of a petition filed by a retired army officer, accusing Union minister Krishan Pal Gujjar of shielding people who were trying to encroach on his land in Faridabad. The land is on the main road and he has constructed rooms and shops on it given the high rents in the area. He has alleged that some private persons, including Tilak Raj, Sagar Singh and Parvesh, all residents of his village, are eyeing his land and asking him to sell it to them. The next hearing has been fixed for December 22. Chaprana, 63, a retired jawan, is a resident of Mewla Maharajpur village in Faridabad.Chaprana told the court that his daughter-in-law and he owned a two-acre plot at a prime location in the village since June 17, 2002.

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday took cognizance of a petition filed by a retired army officer, accusing Union minister Krishan Pal Gujjar of shielding people who were trying to encroach on his land in Faridabad. The court issued notices to the Haryana government and Faridabad police officials on his plea.Justice Sudip Ahluwalia also asked deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of Faridabad to file a reply as well as an action taken report on the petitioner Bishamber Singh Chaprana's representation submitted on November 21. Chaprana, 63, a retired jawan, is a resident of Mewla Maharajpur village in Faridabad.Chaprana told the court that his daughter-in-law and he owned a two-acre plot at a prime location in the village since June 17, 2002. The land is on the main road and he has constructed rooms and shops on it given the high rents in the area. He has alleged that some private persons, including Tilak Raj, Sagar Singh and Parvesh, all residents of his village, are eyeing his land and asking him to sell it to them. "On my refusal, they came to the site on November 21, 2017 with JCB machine and demolished a structure (wall) forcibly," he said in the petition.Chaprana also claimed before the high court that when he approached the Surajkund police station SHO to register an FIR, the officer advised him to sell the land.Claiming that he was helpless and getting threats, Chaprana told the court that he had earlier filed a petition on November 27 on the same issue after which the court had directed the local SHO to examine his application. Chaprana told him that the SHO refused to help him aand said that he did not want to lose his job.While seeking directions to protect his life and liberty, Chaprana has submitted that he was approaching the court again because local authorities were under pressure from Gujjar and were not taking action against those who had demolished a wall on his land. The next hearing has been fixed for December 22.
