Drive to recover water, sanitation bills

Gurgaon: Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is going launch a drive against the defaulters of water and sanitation charges starting from sectors 14, 15 and 17. Anticipating resistance from residents during the drive, Huda has requested support from the police force.According to Huda officials, these three sectors have around thousand houses that have not paid there water and sanitation charges for years. Ganeshan, in a meeting with estate officers and other officials, asked for details about the pending dues and also directed officials to disconnect the water supply to the homes of defaulters.Under a financial crisis, Huda is struggling to maintain water supply. In the first phase, Huda is going to take action against big defaulters.The chief administrator of Huda, J Ganeshan, had recently directed officials to not process any application of plots with dues.Allottees with pending water bills will not be able to sell or transfer their properties in Huda sectors. "We have to recover around Rs 1.5 crore from these sectors," said a senior Huda official, adding they had issued three notices in the past few months but defaulters failed to settle their dues.

A few months ago, Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPN) had issued a notice to the urban development authority for non-payment of power bill for two of its water treatment plants at Basai and Chandu Budhera.Every month, Huda pays Rs3 crore for power consumption for water supply, apart from this Rs5 crore is spent every month on maintenance.
