GHAZIABAD: Reeling under heavy debt, a 50-year-old homemaker allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her flat in GH7 society in Crossings Republik . Her pet dog, a 14-year-old black Labrador, lay dead nearby. The matter came to light on Tuesday afternoon after Karuna Sidhanti’s husband Madusudan Sidhanti woke up from his nap. According to Madusudan, he woke up around 5.30pm and saw the body of his wife hanging from the ceiling fan in the adjacent room. “Karuna was hanging from the ceiling fan while our pet dog Bruno was found dead. It seems Karuna poisoned him before committing suicide,” said Madusudan.A note allegedly scribbled in bold by Karuna on the wall read, ‘This House is Haunted…Madhur Jain of Heydey Communications, Rohini, Delhi has killed us.’Unable to bear the sight, Madusudan locked his house and went outside. “After looking at this horrific scene, I too did not want to live so I went out with an intent to commit suicide,” he said, adding, that he roamed the whole night in the vicinity of Crossings Republik and sat in a park in Golf course area. “I could not muster the courage to kill myself so I roamed around here and there the whole night and came back.On Wednesday afternoon Madhusudan went to Crosing Republik police chowki and informed police who reached the flat and took the bodies into custody.Prajyant Tyagi, chowki in charge, said, “He said they were depressed as they were under heavy debt. During questioning we were told that Madusudan is a small time contractor and had dealings with Delhi-based Heydey Communications company. He owed him Rs 12 lakh but about seven months ago the cheque he had given them bounced. Following this, the company filed a case against Madusudan at Rohini court.”Madusudan was served a notice a fortnight ago and since then the couple have been had gone into depression. “They feared that they would have to go to jail” said Tyagi. The couple lived in flat number 10102 on the seventh floor in GH7 society in Crossings Republik along with Bruno. They bought the flat in 2010 but due to financial constraints sold it a colonel and shifted to Delhi in 2012.In 2013 the new owner of the house requested that they shift to this house to which the couple agreed. “We had to pay rent and with no fixed source of income it was very difficult to carry on with life,” said Madhsudan. The couple had no children and no relatives except for Madhsudan’s brother.Circle Officer Manish Singh said the matter is being investigated. “We are awaiting the postmortem report of the woman and her dog. Only after this will we be in a position to say something conclusively,” said Singh. Though not detained, Madhsudan has been kept under watch.
