Ghaziabad: Robbers' gang busted, four members arrested

GHAZIABAD: Four members of a gang have been arrested in connection with the two robbery incidents which had taken place in different areas in the recent months. One of the arrested persons is a jeweller who used to buy stolen ornaments at half the rate. The victim, Haji Iqbal , an iron scrap dealer, owns a house in Hindon Vihar’s Gali number 5. When the family returned home after three hours, they found the lock of the main gate broken and the entire house ransacked. He had married his son Abuzar in October 2017 and keeping ornaments and cash at home.On the evening of December 27, he along with his family members had gone to Jassipura to meet a relative who was not keeping well.

The police recovered diamond, gold and silver jewellery from their possession, besides a car and a motorcycle which they allegedly bought using the stolen cash.According to police, after conducting the robberies the gang members, who also worked as daily wagers, were living a lavish life and spending the money on hotel visits and on other leisure activities. However, the kingpin of the gang Pappu alias Lambu, who is wanted in several cases in Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat besides Ghaziabad , is still at large.CO I (City) Manisha Singh said, “During interrogation, the accused told us they acted as informants as well as hired accomplices of Pappu to commit robberies. One of the arrested persons is a jeweller who used to buy stolen ornaments at half the rate. We suspect that there are more members of the gang and hope to recover more stolen items once they are caught.The accused have been identified as Asif Qureshi, Zubair, Asif Ali and Wasim, who is the jeweller.In the first case, the accused had robbed a businessman’s house in Hindon Vihar under Sihani Gate police station on December 27 last year and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh. The victim, Haji Iqbal , an iron scrap dealer, owns a house in Hindon Vihar’s Gali number 5. He had married his son Abuzar in October 2017 and keeping ornaments and cash at home.On the evening of December 27, he along with his family members had gone to Jassipura to meet a relative who was not keeping well. When the family returned home after three hours, they found the lock of the main gate broken and the entire house ransacked. He had further alleged that Rs 21 lakh in cash and 2 kg jewellery had gone missing.Interestingly, Asif Ali and Zubair are neighbours of Haji Iqbal and informed the gang leader about the presence of cash and jewellery at the victim’s house.Later, the accused burgled houses of two medical staff including a doctor at MMG district hospital on February 21, 2018.SHO (Kotwali) Jaikaran Singh said, “They first robbed the house of orthopaedic doctor DK Verma and fled with jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash. On the same day, they stole Rs 65,000 from the house of Richa Chandel, a hospital management staff.”The Hindon Vihar businessman, however, has expressed dissatisfaction over the arresting made by the police in his case alleging that some of the accused had been let off by the police.
