More police stations likely to come up in Ghaziabad

The delineation of the city into east and west zones will be possible only after the numbers of new police stations are decided. Ghaziabad: The city police is proposing to create a number of new police stations in the Trans-Hindon area including Indirapuram and Sahibabad to keep check on the rising crime graph and to ensure better law and order by creating compact policing zones.

The areas of the city will also be divided into two separate zones and placed under the jurisdiction of separate superintendents of police (SP).Presently, policing responsibilities in Ghaziabad are divided between two SPs for rural and city areas, with a senior superintendent of police (SSP) at the helm.“The city area is large and unwieldy. We are mooting upon an idea to divide policing between east and west zones by delineating boundaries that will be contiguous with the Trans- and Cis-Hindon areas of Ghaziabad. In the Trans-Hindon area, a number of new police stations will be carved out from Indirapuram and Sahibabad. The delineation of the city into east and west zones will be possible only after the numbers of new police stations are decided. The proposal will be subsequently sent to the state government for approval,” SSP Vaibhav Krishna told TOI.For past several years, residents of Trans-Hindon area, which include the urban townships of Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi and Indirapuram, have been demanding for creation of new police stations. Similar demands have been echoed from Sahibabad residents too which include areas like Shalimar Garden, Rajendra Nagar, Mohan Nagar, Shyam Park and Shahid Nagar.Police said the exact population of areas falling under the limits of Indirapuram and Sahibabad police stations are being worked out from the Census of India. The total number of voters in Sahibabad assembly constituency, which comprises of all areas under Indirapuram and Sahibabad police stations, is over 8 lakhs. Police said norms require that there is at least one police station for 50,000 people in urban areas and between 75,000 and 90,000 people in rural areas.During the erstwhile Samajwadi Party regime in UP, in rural area, three police stations had been carved out of Loni - Loni, Loni Border and Tronica City. Similarly in the city area, two police stations had been carved out of Indirapuram - Indirapuram and Khoda.
