In these areas, the speed of vehicles is reduced to 10km per hour. GHAZIABAD: The Central Road Research Institute ( CRRI ), which has been entrusted with the responsibility to prepare a comprehensive mobility plan for the city by GDA , submitted a short term mobility plan to the development agency on Wednesday. In its plan, the CRRI suggested doing away with 29 cuts along the 12.7km Modinagar-Muradnagar corridor and instead suggested seven cuts. “We have proposed the pedestrian underpass or footover bridges at Raj Chopla, SRM College, Sikari Mandir and Railway road crossing. We have also recommended to install signs, flashing signals, retro reflective markers along the stretch.” Meanwhile, a GDA official said, “We have received the plan which will be vetted by GDA vice-chairperson Ritu Maheshwari. The CRRI also suggested measures to decongest the stretch, which sees movement of 1.3 lakh vehicles every day.Subhash Chand, scientist at CRRI, said, “After conducting a traffic survey along the 12.7km Modinagar-Muradnagar corridor, we found out that there are 29 cuts along the stretch and there is no proper turning radius due to lesser median width.

As a result, the average speed of the vehicles, especially four wheelers, is between 38 to 42km/hr as opposed to the operating speed, which is between 56km/hr to 76km/hour.”He further said, “Out of the 29 cuts, the most troublesome cuts are Mahenderpuri, Modi Mandir, Muradnagar-Sondha road cut and Jhilmil dhaba. In these areas, the speed of vehicles is reduced to 10km per hour. So we have suggested widening the cuts to enable traffic to pass through without waiting.” The report says that there is no pedestrian crossing facilities across the stretch, which leads to people crossing the road in a haphazard manner and disrupting traffic. It will be implemented after assessing its feasibility.” In January this year, the GDA had roped in CRRI to make a comprehensive plan on traffic management in the city. The CRRI was given nine months time to complete the work which will include long-term and short-term plan and it will cover whole of Ghaziabad including Modinagar, Loni and Muradnagar.A comprehensive mobility plan has been necessitated as Ghaziabad has undergone a huge change in terms of transport infrastructure in the past five years.
