We wrote a letter to the Noida Authority seeking clarification if the MoU be considered cancelled in this situation. “We are at the same place, looking for a solution to this serious issue of waste disposal. The Noida Authority stated that it be cancelled,” Chahal said.Alok Tandon said that “the letter of cancellation was sent by us on March 9. Noida Authority should not have cancelled this MoU. However, after four years , Noida Authority has now cancelled its MoU with GNIDA on Astoli.Residents claim four years have been wasted with no solution to the problem.

Noida: The Noida Authority on Wednesday zeroed in on a fresh site — an uninhabited remote area of Mubarkpur village near Sector 145 — for temporary dumping and storge of garbage. This was after the Greater Noida Authority clarified the landfill site in Astoli will not be available to Noida as the MoU between the two authorities had been cancelled “We have begun dumping garbage from today (Wednesday) at the site near Mubarakpur village. The area is an uninhabited land,” Noida Authority OSD Rajesh Singh told TOI.The move came amid Greater Noida OSD Vibha Chahal’s statement on Wednesday that the MoU between Noida Authority and GNIDA on Astoli dump site had been cancelled — a fact corroborated by Noida Authority CEO Alok Tandon later in the day.“We received information that Noida has decided to set up its separate waste plant in Sector 123. We wrote a letter to the Noida Authority seeking clarification if the MoU be considered cancelled in this situation. The Noida Authority stated that it be cancelled,” Chahal said.Alok Tandon said that “the letter of cancellation was sent by us on March 9. The prime reason is the distance of Astoli from Noida which would have meant huge transportation costs.”When contacted, district magistrate BN Singh (who’s currently handling the garage dump issue) said his mandate “is to find a short-term solution to the problem, and thereafter, look for a permanent one”.“Currently I’m focussing on short-term disposal of garbage from the city which is finalised on a land near Sector 145. On the long-term permanent disposal, I will take action once the committee proposed by me of all stakeholders is formed and suggestions sought as per municipal solid waste and NGT rules,” he added.Greater Noida generates around 150 tonnes of waste every day and Noida generates around 600 tonnes. Both were supposed to be dumped on the 52 hectare land acquired in Astoli as per the MoU. However, after four years , Noida Authority has now cancelled its MoU with GNIDA on Astoli.Residents claim four years have been wasted with no solution to the problem. “We are at the same place, looking for a solution to this serious issue of waste disposal. Noida Authority should not have cancelled this MoU. Waste disposal at Astoli still remains the best option,” said P Chandra, a resident of Sector 78.While Alok Shroff of Sunshine Helios housing society in Sector 78 said that he was extremely disappointed by the flip-flop decision of Noida Authority, Anupam Oberoi, a resident of Sector 122, slammed the Authority for “still not giving clear answers on a permanent solution to the problem”.
