Power dues collectors get beaten up in Rajnagar

The power department has the right to disconnect supply after the last date of clearing pending dues expired on June 29. GHAZIABAD: Three contractual employees of power discom were thrashed by a consumer in Rajnagar area on Tuesday after they demanded clearing of pending dues. When the power officials asked Kumar to clear the dues or get the supply disconnected, Kumar attacked the team along with his brother Rinku and son Nitin. The last date of clearing the dues had already expired on June 29. The employees have suffered head and upper body injuries and one of them is admitted to a hospital.The team had visited the premises of Mithilesh Kumar in Sector 7 to collect pending dues amounting to Rs 8,500.

The employees have suffered head and upper body injuries and one of them is admitted to a hospital.The team had visited the premises of Mithilesh Kumar in Sector 7 to collect pending dues amounting to Rs 8,500. The last date of clearing the dues had already expired on June 29. When the power officials asked Kumar to clear the dues or get the supply disconnected, Kumar attacked the team along with his brother Rinku and son Nitin. The three employees, Virendra, Dhoomchand and Anil, were allegedly beaten up with iron rods and sticks while another unknown man pointed a revolver at them.According to police, some guests were present in Kumar’s house when the power department team visited his premises to disconnect the supply.“The attack upon the team was unprovoked. The power department has the right to disconnect supply after the last date of clearing pending dues expired on June 29. The consumer might have been offended by the visit of the team to disconnect the supply,” discom executive engineer Pankaj Goel told TOI.A huge crowd gathered when Kumar thrashed the employees. They were rescued by a team of cops after they contacted the police control room. They were taken to a government hospital in Sector 23 of Sanjay Nagar. While Virendra and Anil were allowed to go home after providing first-aid, Dhoomchand was admitted in the hospital.On the basis of a complaint filed by the electricity department, an FIR has been registered pertaining to assault and criminal intimidation in Kavi Nagar police station.
