The SSP said the role of the boy’s mother was being investigated. When he was questioned, Subhash admitted to killing the boy because he was afraid of being caught by the boy’s father. Subhash was learnt to have borrowed Rs 10,000 from the boy’s father and Rs 15,000 from his younger brother for his wife’s delivery, the police said. On Thursday, repeated calls to the boy’s father failed to elicit any response.“A team formed to investigate the case went through footage of CCTV cameras installed near the house and those along the path leading to the sugarcane field. The cops had earlier said the 14-year-old had been killed by a group of minor boys with whom he had had a quarrel during a game of cricket.

GHAZIABAD: A 14-year-old boy who was found dead with his throat slit in a sugarcane field last week was murdered by a tenant because the child had seen him in a compromising position with his mother, police said. The revelation is in stark contrast with the version given by police earlier. The cops had earlier said the 14-year-old had been killed by a group of minor boys with whom he had had a quarrel during a game of cricket. A 9-year-old boy and a woman had been detained for questioning, but were later released.Police said Subhash, the accused tenant who had been staying in the Modinagar house of the boy for the past nine months, had killed him because he feared the boy would tell his father about the illicit relationship the tenant had with his mother.Little did anyone suspect Subhash, a cashier in a cooking gas agency, for the murder because he not only attended the last rites of the boy on June 29 but also participated in a protest rally accusing the police of inaction in the case. The boy’s father, a dealer of shoes, had earlier accused a few children in his locality of killing his son following a fight during a cricket match. An FIR was registered against a nine-year-old boy and a few unnamed persons. On Thursday, repeated calls to the boy’s father failed to elicit any response.“A team formed to investigate the case went through footage of CCTV cameras installed near the house and those along the path leading to the sugarcane field. In one of the footage, they found the boy sitting pillion on a scooter being driven by Subhash. When he was questioned, Subhash admitted to killing the boy because he was afraid of being caught by the boy’s father. Subhash was involved in an illicit relationship with the boy’s mother,” Ghaziabad SSP Vaibhav Krishna said.Sources said Subhash had lured the 14-year-old boy to Muradnagar on the pretext of buying him kitHe allegedly took him to the sugarcane field and then strangulated him.To ensure he would die, he slit his throat with a knife. Subhash then returned to his rented accommodation, and joined the boy’s family in their search for the missing child. The SSP said the role of the boy’s mother was being investigated. The officer added that it appeared the mother did not have any inkling about Subhash being the murderer. Subhash had had a love marriage and is a father of two children. He said he did not repent having multiple relationships and instead boasted about them. Before working at the gas agency, he worked at a woman apparel shop as a salesman. There, too, he was apparently involved in a relationship with a woman. Subhash was learnt to have borrowed Rs 10,000 from the boy’s father and Rs 15,000 from his younger brother for his wife’s delivery, the police said.
