Finmin approves Ghaziabad metro DPR, but funds crunch stays

GHAZIABAD: The Union finance ministry has approved the revised detailed project report (DPR) for the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand metro project, officials said. “External finishing work on all metro stations is underway and based on this, we are hopeful that we will start the operation on this metro corridor by September 2018 as scheduled,” he added. The approval will pave the way for an early release of the Centre’s share of Rs 402.40 crore which is hanging fire since last year.“We have been informed that the finance ministry has given its consent to the revised DPR of Rs 2,210 crore for Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand metro project, which will facilitate the early release of Centre’s fund which is Rs 402.40 crore,” VN Singh, chief engineer, Ghaziabad Development Authority, told TOI.“The project now awaits the Union cabinet’s approval after which the funds will be released,” he added.The Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand metro project is facing funds crunch as the departments and agencies concerned have not contributed their share completely.The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, for instance, has declined to pay up its share of Rs 246.35 crore.As for other agencies, the UP Housing Board has deposited Rs 280.90 crore only of its total share of Rs 440.45 crore, while UPSIDC has deposited Rs 73.30 crore of Rs 90 crore.The GDA, the single largest contributor to the project, has paid Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Rs 646.18 crore out of its total share of Rs 695.80 crore.The Union government and DMRC are other two contributors, with the later adjusting its share of Rs 328 crore in the form of rolling stocks.“The civil work on 9.41km Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand metro project is 95% complete and we have also completed 90% of the track laying work and 60% of electrification work for the line,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
