1 killed as Swift hits Hindon flyover’s divider, overturns

The maximum speed limit on the elevated road is 80kmph.On May 23 this year, two persons were injured in a collision between a car and an SUV on the road. Preliminary investigation has revealed that speeding was the cause behind the accident. The sixth occupant of the car, Abid, suffered minor bruises.Sources said the driver of the car, which was speeding at almost 80kmph, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the driver.

GHAZIABAD: The driver of a five-seater Swift packed with six persons was killed and four were injured when the car crashed into a divider on the Hindon elevated road and overturned.Sources said this was the first fatal accident on the 10km elevated road, which was inaugurated on March 30 this year to cut down travel time between UP Gate and Raj Nagar Extension to a mere 15 minutes. Two other accidents have taken place on the road in the past, but there were no casualties.The injured were admitted to Narindra Mohan Hospital , where their condition was stated to be stable. The accident happened around 8.30pm when the family was returning home to Pasonda from a wedding in Delhi’s Sundar Nagari The deceased has been identified as Saud (22), who was driving the car, and the injured as Banne, Aas Mohammad, Ravi and Farman. The sixth occupant of the car, Abid, suffered minor bruises.Sources said the driver of the car, which was speeding at almost 80kmph, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the driver. It is yet to be ascertained whether the occupants of the car were drunk or not.”When the elevated road was launched in March this year, it had sparked speculation of accidents due to speeding as a substantial stretch of the road runs parallel to the Hindon canal. The maximum speed limit on the elevated road is 80kmph.On May 23 this year, two persons were injured in a collision between a car and an SUV on the road. The SUV was moving at such speed that it crossed into the other carriageway after crashing into the divider and hit an Alto.The first accident on the elevated road, since its inauguration on March 30, had taken place on April 18, when a Meerut-bound bus carrying a marriage party had crashed into a height barrier at the UP Gate-end. One person was seriously injured in the accident while others had suffered minor bruises.
