GHAZIABAD: Work on the Dilshad Garden-New Bus stand metro corridor, which is running behind schedule, had to be stopped on one of its proposed stations on Tuesday following objection from locals.The locals alleged that while laying a water outlet, the workers of DMRC had damaged sewer pipeline in the area which resulted in sewer overflow. The local councillor, who led the protest , has also charged the DMRC of carrying out work in the area without permission. Following the protest, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and DMRC officials jointly surveyed the area and decided to halt the work on this point till an alternative is found.“The area, which has a population of over 1.4 lakh, is facing sewer overflow problem as the DMRC had damaged sewer pipeline while working on the Shahid Nagar metro station. They had also not sought permission from GMC or GDA,” said Mohammad Kallan, councillor from ward number 34. “Since it was raining, the problem has worsened. DMRC sought to underplay the incident. “While we were preparing to lay the pipeline, the sewer line got damaged and work had to be stopped following objections from locals.
