Mob attacks cops with stones after truck runs over man in Ghaziabad

Rahul, a plumber by profession, was returning home from Daulat Nagar when the tyre of his motorbike got punctured. He had covered some distance when a speeding dumper carrying mud hit him from behind and crushed him under the wheels.

GHAZIABAD: At least six policemen, including two sub-inspectors, were injured after they were pelted with stones by a mob protesting the death of a man who was crushed under the wheels of a dumper on Wednesday night in Tronica City.An FIR has been registered against 150 unidentified people for rioting and damaging public property. The policemen have been undergoing treatment in hospitals.The trouble began around 9pm when the man, Rahul, met with an accident near Dugrawali village. Rahul, a plumber by profession, was returning home from Daulat Nagar when the tyre of his motorbike got punctured. He got down and started pushing the bike. He had covered some distance when a speeding dumper carrying mud hit him from behind and crushed him under the wheels. Rahul died on the spot.Soon, a large number of people from Dugrawali village, where Rahul stayed with his parents, gathered at the spot and blocked the Delhi-Saharanpur road. A police team rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that the driver of the truck would be arrested soon. The blockade was then lifted.But a section of villagers took Rahul’s body to Tronica City police station and protested outside, accusing the cops of failing to rein in rash driving. A police team requested the villagers to lift the protest , but to no avail.When the team began removing the protesters forcibly, they hurdled stones at the cops, which left six policemen, including sub-inspectors Harendra Pal Singh and Sishu Pal Solanki, injured.The police started a baton-charge, in which a few passersby and protesters were injured. The villagers damaged two dumpers, a car and two motorcycles during the protest.SP (rural) AK Maurya and some other senior officers from various police stations reached the spot and pacified the mob. The situation was brought under control by midnight.Police have lodged an FIR against the unidentified driver of the dumper on a complaint from relatives of the deceased youthSHO (Tronica City) Shyamvir Singh said three protesters had been arrested so far. The dumper driver is absconding, he added.
