Dial 100 and lodge a complaint: Number of FIRs sees a steep rise in Ghaziabad

Cops posted at police posts and police stations are now more sensitive towards such crimes and in a very short span of time they have busted many gangs of chain snatchers and vehicle lifters.”

GHAZIABAD: Ever since the district police has implemented the practice of registering FIRs on the basis of complaints they received through Dial 100 police response vehicles (PRVs), the number of FIRs related to theft, snatching and vehicle theft in Ghaziabad has gone up multiple times.The system was launched on May 14 this year and since then, the police said, they have maintained a track record of 100% complaint registration. Under this new system, complainants of robbery, loot or snatching, and vehicle thefts, in which the accused are unknown, are no longer required to visit police stations for registration of FIRs. Once they make a call to Dial 100, the PRVs, which reach the crime scene, give them a form to record their complaint.Three copies of the complaint are made. One copy is given to the complainant, another one is kept by the PRV for the record purpose. Subsequently, the cops manning the PRVs submit the third copy to the police station concerned for the registration of the FIR.According to police data, as compared to just 20 cases of snatching reported in May 2016 and 24 cases in May 2017, as many as 326 FIRs were lodged in May 2018. Similarly, 269 cases of robbery were filed in May 2018 as compared to 94 cases in 2016 and 120 cases in 2017. Moreover, 530 cases related to vehicle theft were lodged in May 2018, as compared to 332 FIRs registered in 2016 and 232 in 2017.SSP Vaibhav Krishna said, “This new system has not only helped in building a citizen-friendly image of Ghaziabad police, but has also helped in identifying the dark spots where such types of cases are taking place in large numbers. Cops posted at police posts and police stations are now more sensitive towards such crimes and in a very short span of time they have busted many gangs of chain snatchers and vehicle lifters.”
