Body of girl who fell in drain found 2km away

Her elder sister Aarti had said, “Bharti fell into the drain while trying to fetch a plastic ball which was floating over the drain. GHAZIABAD: The body of a seven-year-old girl , who fell into an open drain near Sahibabad railway station on Saturday afternoon, was found floating two kilometres away in Sahibabad Industrial area on Sunday morning.Bharti, a resident of Shyam Park, had fallen into a four-foot wide and six-foot deep drain near her house while playing with her siblings on Saturday around 2 pm. The police sent the body for post-mortem and then handed it over to her parents.Police said no written complaint had been received from the family so far. She was trying to catch hold of the ball by stretching her hand, but lost control and fell into the muddy water.”Though a rescue operation was started immediately by a joint team of local police, fire brigade and Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, the girl could not be found. At 5pm, a team of divers from the NDRF also joined the rescue operation, but could not trace the girl as the drain was overflowing due to heavy rain throughout the day.The rescue operation was stopped at 8pm owing to heavy rain and darkness in the area.However, on Sunday, her body was found floating in the drain near a bus depot in Sahibabad Industrial area Site IV.
