NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The divisional commissioner of Meerut on Monday directed the district magistrates and development authority officials in Meerut zone to immediately conduct a survey of illegal buildings and start their demolition . The directive came in the wake of the collapse of the twin buildings in Shahberi in Greater Noida last Tuesday and another multi-storey building near the Dasna flyover in Ghaziabad this Sunday.The commissioner, Anita Meshram, was in Ghaziabad on Monday to stake stock of the situation at the site of the under-construction building which had collapsed the previous day.Meshram directed the officials to identify all illegal and unauthorised buildings in their respective districts so that they can be pulled down. She also directed the Ghaziabad Development Authority to ascertain the role of its officials, if any, across all divisions, in the mushrooming of illegal structures. She has directed for registration of FIRs against all officials who have connived with shady builders in constructing illegal buildings after bypassing all norms and bylaws.Meshram also ordered district magistrates and development authorities in Meerut zone to publish the maps of authorised buildings on their respective websites. “You are directed to ensure that there is no repetition of such unwanted incidents in the zonal area,” the letter issued from her office said.The commissioner directed senior officials to register an FIR against the developer and officials if the construction has not been stopped on unauthorised projects after notices were served to them. The officials have been told to display the demolition notices at public places.The developers of group housing societies on lease hold have been directed to display land allotment number and the layout approval from the concerned authority on the project site before the construction starts. The officials have been directed to ensure that no worker stays temporarily or permanently in the under-construction houses beyond the working hour.“All the district magistrates and development authority officials have been directed to ensure enforcement of the order. In case of laxity, action will be initiated against the concerned official,” the letter states.However, the enforcement of order would be a difficult task as officials have no concrete plan for the demolition drive. A source said that Gautam Budh Nagar’s authorities – Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Authority – are industrial development authorities. These authorities have a different reporting head. “The commissioner’s order is primarily for development authorities like GDA and not for industrial development authorities in Gautam Budh Nagar,” said a source.
