GMC seeks Rs 12 lakh for Vasundhara cave-in repair

GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has written to the UP housing board, seeking a reimbursement of Rs 12 lakh it spent to fill the trench that had a caused a massive cave-in in Vasundhara 12 days ago.Officials said the GMC had asked the housing board to ensure such an incident is not repeated. So, we have also asked the board to reimburse it,” he added.An official of the housing board, which has already attracted criticism following the cave-in, said they were yet to receive the missive. “Our dumpers were pressed into service and all our workers had to be pooled in to fill the trench. “We will file an appropriate reply once we get the notice,” said the senior official.

The cave-in had forced over 90 families to move out of their apartments and spend the night with relatives and neighbours.“Vasundhara comes under the jurisdiction of the housing board and it clearly failed to ensure that a cave-in doesn’t take place during the rain,” said Md. Moinuddin, chief engineer, GMC. “Our dumpers were pressed into service and all our workers had to be pooled in to fill the trench. It cost us Rs 12 lakh.
