Undertrial gives cop a slip in Ghaziabad court

GHAZIABAD: An undertrial prisoner fled from a court in Ghaziabad on Monday, where he was brought for a hearing, by hoodwinking a police constable who was accompanying him. On Monday, he was brought from the jail for hearing in court No. The constable left him alone for a moment at the ground floor of the court building when he left to make formal entries for the day in a register. The prisoner, Ishrar, is an accused in a theft case that took place in Kavi Nagar in 2014.Ishrar was in judicial custody in Dasna jail after he was arrested. He was being accompanied by a constable, Krishan Murari, who had recently been attached to the police lines from Khoda police station where he was posted.“The undertrial prisoner had not been handcuffed as he was brought for hearing.

On Monday, he was brought from the jail for hearing in court No. 79. He was being accompanied by a constable, Krishan Murari, who had recently been attached to the police lines from Khoda police station where he was posted.“The undertrial prisoner had not been handcuffed as he was brought for hearing. The constable left him alone for a moment at the ground floor of the court building when he left to make formal entries for the day in a register. The accused immediately fled from the premises taking advan-tage of the situation,” said a police officer.The police have registered an FIR at Kavi Nagar police station under sections 223 (escape from confinement negligently suffered by public servant) and 224 (resistance to lawful apprehension) of IPC following the escape.Ishrar has been named as an accused in the FIR along with the constable.“The undertrial was being produced in court regularly on the hearing dates ever since he was arrested. No one had bailed him out following his arrest. He originally belongs to Kandhla area of Shamli district ,” deputy SP Atish Singh told TOI.This is third in a series of similar events that have taken place in a little over the past one month in Ghaziabad.
