GHAZIABAD: A 75-year-old woman allegedly died in a scuffle during a robbery in her house in Ghaziabad on Friday. The elderly woman, Kamlesh Sharma, lived alone in a three-storey house in Patel Nagar II.The woman, a widow, was found lying on the floor of a washroom in the ground floor of the house by a maid working in the house of her daughter Barkha at around 8am. Barkha also lives with her family in Patel Nagar II a short distance away from the house of her mother. The entire house had been ransacked while Kamlesh was found with torn earlobes and nostrils apart from contusions on her right arm. Kamlesh had been living alone ever since the demise of her husband, a power discom employee, a few years ago.Barkha’s family had sent the maid, Rekha, to check on Kamlesh when she did not visit their house, as was her routine every morning, till 8 am. Rekha found the main door of the house and the grille gate across it bolted from outside. “She found the bathroom door tightly shut from inside when she entered the house after opening the two main doors. The rooms had been ransacked and Rekha found Kamlesh lying on the bathroom floor when she pushed it open. She raised an alarm. We took her to a private hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Doctors suspected she died of a cardiac arrest,” Barkha’s daughter, Niharika, told TOI. Neighbours told police that they had seen Kamlesh cleaning the outside of her house at around 5.30 am.Eyewitnesses have further claimed that they had seen a man bolting the door of the house of Kamlesh from outside in the morning. Police sources said that they have found a broken red-coloured glass bangle inside the washroom which did not belong to Kamlesh. The family has alleged that Kamlesh wore gold bangles, ear rings and a diamond-studded nose ring which had been wrenched away from her body thereby causing injuries.A CCTV footage has been recovered which is being examined by cops.On the basis of a complaint registered by the woman’s family members, the police have registered an FIR under Section 460 (causing death during house trespass or house breaking) of IPC against unidentified persons.“We suspect the role of an insider. The post-mortem report will establish the cause of death. We have not been able to identify any suspects so far,” said Sanjay Pandey, SHO, Sihani Gate police station.
