Farmers in Mandola told not to flare up land agitation

GHAZIABAD: The district administration and farmers agitating over land prices in Mandola failed to reach a consensus on the compensation rate on Saturday. "We tried to reason with the farmers and told them their demands have been sent to the state government. Till then, we requested them not to indulge in an activity that could pose a law and order problem," said Maheshwari. Farmers from Loni's Mandola and five other villages have been agitating since 2016 over a host of issues, prominent among them being the demand for an enhanced compensation. "A coordination committee has also been set up to iron out differences and the agitating farmers have been requested to cooperate," she added.Manveer Teotia, a leader of the farmers, said the administration had been misleading them for the last two years.

The farmers, who have been demonstrating since 2016, were asked not to intensify their agitation that could pose law and order problems.The meeting with the farmers was chaired by divisional commissioner Anita Meshram and attended by housing board commissioner Ajay Chauhan and district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari. Farmers from Loni's Mandola and five other villages have been agitating since 2016 over a host of issues, prominent among them being the demand for an enhanced compensation. There have been many occasions when agitating famers have blocked highways."We tried to reason with the farmers and told them their demands have been sent to the state government. It's for the government to decide. Till then, we requested them not to indulge in an activity that could pose a law and order problem," said Maheshwari. "A coordination committee has also been set up to iron out differences and the agitating farmers have been requested to cooperate," she added.Manveer Teotia, a leader of the farmers, said the administration had been misleading them for the last two years.
