GHAZIABAD: A retired junior commissioned officer with the Indian Air Force was attacked by three bike-borne men outside his house in Rajendra Nagar on Thursday night when he resisted their attempt to rob his car. The former junior warrant officer, Harvinder Singh (52), has been admitted to a private hospital where his health condition is said to be stable.Singh’s daughter Gunjan, a second-year humanities student at Miranda House in Delhi, was also attacked by the robbers when she intervened to save her father. Gunjan escaped with deep scratches on her neck.The robbery attempt took place around 10.30pm near Ekta Park in Sector 2 where Singh lives in a first-floor apartment with his family. Singh said, the men tried to rob his Swift car as soon as he reached home after attending to his ailing father who is admitted to a hospital. “I asked Gunjan to come downstairs with the keys of the main gate so that I could park the vehicle inside. Just then, three men on a motorbike drove up towards me and tried to snatch my car keys. They were in an inebriated condition. When I resisted, they hit my head repeatedly with a helmet. They also attacked me with a sharp-edged weapon,” he said.
