GHAZIABAD: A Titan watch on the wrist of one of two persons arrested in connection with an iPhone snatching case has led police to solve an 11-year-old mystery behind the sudden disappearance of a constable from the Ghaziabad police lines in 2007.Constable Ikrar Ali, who had gone to raid a hideout in April 2007 along with his informer Vijay Pal in Jarcha area, had been reported missing since. Though police presumed them to be dead, their bodies were never recovered.Sanjay Verma, the crime branch in-charge, said the police got a tip-off on Friday that a few members of a gang of robbers were coming to Old Bus stand. Police intercepted Meghu and Rajbir , and an iPhone was recovered from them among other stolen items.During interrogation, the cops asked Meghu if the Titan watch he was wearing was stolen, too. It was then that Meghu apparently revealed that the watch belonged to Ikrar, whom he had murdered along with his brothers in 2007.Meghu was believed to have told his interrogators that the bodies of Ikrar and informer Vijay had been chopped into pieces and thrown into a drain in a forest in Jarcha."The old watch helped us crack the case. Meghu confessed to his crime, when asked to reveal the source of the watch. He also told us that his brothers Pawan, Nitu, Subodh and maternal uncle Prakash were involved in the murder of the constable and his accomplice. They were hacked to death with sharp-edged weapons and then thrown into a drain," SSP Vaibhav Krishna said.Ikrar's son Nadeem Ali (30), however, refused to buy the police's argument. "The police never paid any heed to our requests and only made a general diary entry at Kavi Nagar police station. My father was very soon forgotten by the police department. We met several senior police officers in the past 11 years, but to no avail."
