GHAZIABAD: District magistrate Ritu Maheshwari has ordered a magisterial probe into the death of three men from suspected suffocation in a tank of a pickle factory in Tronica City on Sunday. The inquiry report has to be submitted in three days.The factory where the incident took place is located in a residential colony with a row of kuccha houses. Administration officials said numerous small-scale illegal units, including those dealing in dyeing and colouring of fabrics, electroplating and food materials, operate in the area.“The inquiry has been ordered through the sub-divisional magistrate of Loni. The factory did not have any permission to operate from a house and was illegal. As of now, the administration has not ordered any compensation for the victims. An immediate relief of Rs 10,000 was granted to the family of the labourer who died while trying to save the factory owners. We are trying to arrange compensation for his family from the chief minister’s relief fund,” Maheshwari said.The labourer, Hriday Raj Dubey, is survived by his wife and three sons. Originally from Pratapgarh district of UP, he used to live in a rented accommodation in a lane behind the factory. The owner, Luv Kush Jaiswal, and his son, Praveen, also belong to Pratapgarh, but lived in Karawal Nagar of Delhi. Jaiswal also owned the house in which the illegal factory had been running.“No compensation has been awarded for the factory owners’ family. But many more units are still operating out of houses,” said Maheshwari.A team of administration officials conducted enquiries in the area along with local police. “From the enquiries, it appears the pickle factory had been shut for the past 15 days. The father-son duo had arrived at the unit on Sunday morning. They had entered inside the tank to clean it probably to resume production,” additional district magistrate Jeetendra Sharma said.
