GHAZIABAD: A 26-year-old man shot at his minor brother-in-law in Vijay Nagar after a series of quarrels with his wife and then shot himself dead following a drinking session with friends on Thursday evening.Police said Pawan, a resident of Pilkhuwa in Hapur district and gym owner, first shot at his 17-year-old brother-in-law Saurabh, went to a liquor shop in Kotwali area and had a few drinks with friends. He then shot himself in the head.Pawan died on the spot itself. His body was found near Sai Upwan near Hindon Canal, police said. Saurabh has been admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar, where his condition is said to be critical.Saurabh’s sister-in-law Anuradha, who was an eyewitness to the incident, said Pawan shot him from point-blank range in the neck and fled after firing two shots in the air. He also left his motorcycle on the spot.Pawan had got married to Soniya (23), a graduate and resident of Gaupuri, on February 21 this year, but ties among them turned sour soon.“Pawan got angry very easily and would beat up Soniya over small issues. He had even filed a police complaint against us for interfering in their married life. On September 12, Soniya, too, went ahead and lodged a complaint against Pawan at the woman police station in Ghaziabad, alleging harassment and dowry demands,” she said.On Wednesday, a meeting of the two sides was organised by the women police station, but no conclusion was reached at. Instead, a clash broke out between the two sides and Pawan allegedly gave threats to Soniya and her family members. Soniya was not at home when Pawan shot at Saurabh.SSP Vaibhav Krishna said: “An FIR has been registered against Pawan under IPC Section 307 for critically injuring Saurabh. Prior to shooting himself, he had sent a text message to his wife informing her of taking the extreme step. An investigation is on.”
