Nomadic robbers’ gang busted in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: The crime branch on Thursday busted an interstate gang of robbers, allegedly involved in several thefts and robberies on the outskirts of Ghaziabad , Haryana and Delhi. The gang used to set up tents along the roadside, and shift base frequently to avoid suspicion, cops said.On Thursday, police got a tip-off that the gang members were staying in a tent set up near Rawali road. Four members of the gang were arrested.The accused have been identified as Akbar, a resident of Masuri, and Yusuf, Samshu, and Gunga, all residents of Meerut. They chose people from the lower strata of society, as they believed that victims from this category seldom come forward to report cases with police.” Two of their accomplices, Naushad and Mehboob, are absconding.

A crime branch team conducted a raid and arrested the four members.Recently, the accused had not only broken into the house of a labourer working at a sugarcane crusher unit in Muradnagar’s Kakada village, but also gang-raped his 60-year-old wife. Three of the arrested accused have confessed to sexually assaulting the elderly woman, police said.Five of the gang members had barged into his house on September 5 and robbed him of Rs 1 lakh in cash and some jewellery, he had said in his complaint to police. They had taken his wife to another room and gang-raped her, and also thrashed the family with sticks and other blunt objects.Talking about the gang’s modus operandi, SSP Vaibhav Krishna said, “The gang members always targeted secluded houses located on the outskirts of the city. They chose people from the lower strata of society, as they believed that victims from this category seldom come forward to report cases with police.”
