GHAZIABAD: The family of a 35-year-old CRPF constable, who was found dead in his room on the CRPF campus in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district two days ago, refused to accept his body, alleging murder. They also blocked Rawali road in Muradnagar for over 20 hours since Friday evening, demanding an impartial probe into his death.Constable Pankaj Chaudhary, a resident of Milak Ravali village in Muradanagar, was found hanging from a ceiling fan on October 25 morning. A senior CRPF officer, in a communication to his family, told them he had committed suicide. However, Pankaj’s family said his wife Rupa had given birth to their first child only four days back and there was no reason for him to take his life in this manner.Pankaj’s mother Satendri Devi said she had last spoken to him on Wednesday around 9.30 pm through video calling and he was very happy to see his child. She added Pankaj was planning to organize a big function to celebrate the occasion after coming home. Their talk was cut short after two of Pankaj’s colleagues came to the room for dinner.Around 4 am on Thursday, Pankaj’s mother was informed about his alleged suicide. The constable’s younger brother Khuswant claimed that Pankaj was being harassed by a senior officer and there was a high possibility that he was murdered due to this reason. He further claimed that in order to make it look like a suicide, Pankaj’s body was hanged from a ceiling fan.Pankaj’s body was flown to Delhi from Neemuch on Friday and then brought to his parental village in Muradnagar via road at night. While his family members were waiting at Muradnagar police station for the body’s arrival, it was brought directly to his village.Hearing the news, a large number of villagers did not let the CRPF vehicles enter the village and stopped them at the entry gate. They subsequently blocked Rawali-Surana road. To ensure that no untoward incident takes place, a large number of personnel from nearby police stations were also deployed at the spot. The family refused to take the body and demanded that Pankaj be first declared a martyr and a fair probe be initiated. They finally agreed to cremate the body around 2 pm on Saturday after CRPF DIG (Noida range) K Thomas Job met them and assured all possible help.“A suitable compensation would be given to the family. Moreover, his wife or any close relative nominated by her would be given a job. An inquiry will be conducted by the CRPF at Neemuch,” the DIG said.“As far as declaring him as a martyr is concerned, it’s beyond our purview and we’ve made the family understand our limitations,” he added.
