GHAZIABAD: A 29-year-old man who had escaped after shooting at an undertrial in a Bulanshahr court in April 2016 was arrested on Sunday. The accused, Nitin Rai alias Kattu, had also opened fire on a team of policemen that tried to shield the prisoner outside the court before fleeing.Five of Nitin’s accomplices had been caught during the shooting but he managed to flee. In August 2018, UP Police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on Nitin. He was arrested on Sunday night from a bus terminal in Govindpuram. Police sources said Nitin had been driving a taxi in Ghaziabad for past two years . “He told us he had been living in Vijay Nagar. He had also stayed in Ballabhgarh with his family for some time. On the day of shooting in 2016, Nitin had come to the court in the vehicle he had been driving and escaped in it. His accomplices were caught,” said SP (city) Shlok Kumar.An FIR under sections 147, 148 and 307 of the IPC as well as under provisions of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, had been registered at Kotwali Nagar police station against Nitin. His five accomplices had been identified as Sachin Thakur, Sunny Pandit, Nitesh Chaudhary, Shivam and Deepu alias Tippan. Police said the six men had planned to gun down Kailash alias Kailu, an undertrial, outside the court in Bulandshahr . However, a police team reached to protect the undertrial.
