GHAZIABAD: An auto driver and his brother-in-law were arrested on Monday in a hit-and-run that took place on November 2 in Vaishali.It turned out that the retired Intelligence Bureau (IB) official , whose body was found under the Elevated Road in Vaishali Sector 6 on November 5, died after he was hit by one of the accused’s auto.The duo, auto driver Atabul (25) and his brother-in-law Mansoor (45), are originally from Bihar, but at present live in Makanpur village, Indirapuram. They were caught after R N Chakraborty’s mobile was traced to Mansoor’s wife.On the morning of the incident, Chakraborty had left home to go to a bank, but when he did not return, his son, Niladri Chakraborty, lodged a kidnapping complaint at Indirapuram police station on November 3.Chakraborty’s body was subsequently found lying in bushes in Sector 6, Vaishali. Police was able to recover his wallet containing Rs 15,800 and identity cards, and his watch, only his phone was missing.Chakraborty’s mobile phone, however, was found to be functional through surveillance. An alert was sounded then. CO (Indirapuram) Ravi Kumar said, “When it was traced, it was found in the possession of Mansoor’s wife.”“Mansoor told us that he was a taking a driving lesson in the auto when he hit Chakraborty, who had suddenly come in front of him.“The two then took an unconscious Chakraborty in their auto and dumped him. Mansoor later found Chakraborty’s phone in the auto and gave it to his wife, thinking it to be left by a passenger,” Kumar added.
