2 SHOs suspended after jewellery store heists

GHAZIABAD: The station house officers of Kavinagar and Sahibabad police stations were suspended on Thursday for dereliction of duty after two daylight robberies took place at jewellery stores in their respective jurisdiction in the past few days. The jeweller was robbed of Rs 4 lakh in cash along with 30kg of silver and 500gm of gold. Krishna was replaced by Upendra Kumar Agrawal, an IPS officer of 2005 batch, who was serving as the police chief in Saharanpur. A lackadaisical attitude cannot be tolerated,” the SP said.The action has come a day after the state government transferred SSP Vaibhav Krishna to Allahabad police headquarters.

GHAZIABAD: The station house officers of Kavinagar and Sahibabad police stations were suspended on Thursday for dereliction of duty after two daylight robberies took place at jewellery stores in their respective jurisdiction in the past few days. On Wednesday afternoon, five armed assailants had escaped with cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs 2 crore from a shop located just 500 metres away from Sahibabad police station.Prior to that, on November 7, a jeweller in Govindpuram I-block was looted at gunpoint by four masked men. The jeweller was robbed of Rs 4 lakh in cash along with 30kg of silver and 500gm of gold. The modus operandi in both cases were quite similar. The accused, with their faces covered, entered shops in broad daylight and escaped on motorcycles with goods and cash pointing guns at the owners.“The action has been initiated against the SHOs for negligence on duty. A lackadaisical attitude cannot be tolerated,” the SP said.The action has come a day after the state government transferred SSP Vaibhav Krishna to Allahabad police headquarters. Krishna was replaced by Upendra Kumar Agrawal, an IPS officer of 2005 batch, who was serving as the police chief in Saharanpur. He took charge in Ghaziabad on Wednesday evening.Apart from the two robberies, the murder of a 21-year-old while trying to fight off two men who attempted to snatch a chain from his sister in Kavinagar six days ago will be another case the new SSP will have to deal on a priority basis.Sources said a reshuffling of SHOs and some circle officers is also likely to take place soon.
