1 kilometre of wires, worth Rs 10 lakh, stolen on national highway

GHAZIABAD: Around a kilometre of electricity cables worth Rs 10 lakh have been stolen. In October last year, two persons were arrested for stealing electricity wires and selling them in Delhi. He said a few electricity poles that were dismantled as part of the highway widening had been stolen too.“There have been several such cases in the past. An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC Section 379 (punishment of theft). Project engineer Prakash Singh said 950 metres of cables had been stolen.The wires are being laid as part of a plan to shift all overhead cables underground along NH-24, which is being widened.

GHAZIABAD: Around a kilometre of electricity cables worth Rs 10 lakh have been stolen. The copper wires had been laid on a stretch of NH-24 between Lal Kuan and IMS College but no cover had been put on it.The private agency laying the cables, Energy Solution Pvt Ltd, said the theft took place on the intervening night of January 6 and 7. The agency filed a complaint at Kavi Nagar police station only on Saturday. Project engineer Prakash Singh said 950 metres of cables had been stolen.The wires are being laid as part of a plan to shift all overhead cables underground along NH-24, which is being widened. Singh said the company was suffering huge losses because of repeated thefts of equipment. He said a few electricity poles that were dismantled as part of the highway widening had been stolen too.“There have been several such cases in the past. But this time, the wires were too costly,” he added. An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC Section 379 (punishment of theft).
