12,000 buyers in distress, Ghaziabad Development Authority sends names to Rera for panel

GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Development Authority has finalised an 11-member conciliation forum as mandated by the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP-Rera) to settle disputes between builders and homebuyers in the city. “A mutually agreed date will be fixed for the developer and the homebuyer to appear before the 11-member forum in their respective jurisdiction. The decision of the forum will be binding on both the parties,” the OSD said.Builders’ body has welcomed the initiative. In Ghaziabad, about 12,000 buyers are currently entangled in disputes with developers.Officials said the forum comprises five members each from residents’ welfare associations and builders’ body Credai and one member from GDA. Kumar of Fed AOA, said, “The forum will provide the much-needed relief to homebuyers.”

In Ghaziabad, about 12,000 buyers are currently entangled in disputes with developers.Officials said the forum comprises five members each from residents’ welfare associations and builders’ body Credai and one member from GDA. Their names have been sent to UP-Rera secretary Abrar Ahmed for approval.“The 11-member conciliation forum includes Federation of Apartment Owners Association president Alok Kumar and TP Tyagi from RWA quota and Manoj Gaur from CREDAI’s quota, while GDA will be represented by its executive engineer RP Singh,” VK Singh, officer on special duty to GDA, told TOI. “We’ve sent names to UP-Rera secretary and shortly the forum will start working.”In November last year, the UP-Rera had proposed the constitution of such forums across 15 development authorities and three industrial authorities in the state, including GDA. “Apart from Ghaziabad, process is underway to constitute the forums in Meerut, Saharanpur, Barielly, Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhanshi, Allahabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna expressway areas,” said Singh.According to officials, UP-Rera will shortlist the homebuyers’ complaints and will contact the builder through the development or industrial authority of the concerned area. “A mutually agreed date will be fixed for the developer and the homebuyer to appear before the 11-member forum in their respective jurisdiction. The decision of the forum will be binding on both the parties,” the OSD said.Builders’ body has welcomed the initiative. Manoj Gaur, national vice president, CRDAI, said similar forums have been formed in Maharashtra and “results are encouraging”. Kumar of Fed AOA, said, “The forum will provide the much-needed relief to homebuyers.”
