In the meeting, we shared with them our plan of building 2,000-odd LIG or EWS flats on 50% of the land. To recover the cost, the remaining land will be sold to builders for building group housing societies,” said Kanchan Verma, vice-chairperson, GDA.“According to an initial estimate , we will have to spend Rs 100 crore in constructing new flats alone, while another Rs 50 crore will be spent on laying water and sewer networks in the area,” she added.Verma said the flats will be constructed in nearby parks after permission from NGT and residents will be shifted there. “Once residents are relocated, the GDA will demolish existing buildings and develop the area as parks and community centres. The planning department is already working on the layout plan. Once the residents consent to it, the proposal will be placed before the GDA board for approval,” Verma said.GDA aims to complete the project in two years, but the vice-chairperson said work is likely to start after the general elections
