Noida gets 4th AQI machine, 3 for Ghaziabad

NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has installed another ambient air quality machine in Noida, the fourth such system in the city.The air quality monitoring system, which has been set up at the UPPCB office in Sector 1, will start recording AQI data by February-end, UPPCB officials said. A third machine, which is located at Sector 62, is operated by the IMD. Meanwhile, two more ambient air quality machines are being set up at Sector 116 and Balak Inter College in Greater Noida.Officials said the city would also be able to see calibrations on LCD monitors soon. The Gautam Budh Nagar district will get two more machines soon, which will take the total number to 6 in Noida and Greater Noida.“With the new system at Sector 1 and two more coming up in Gautam Budh Nagar, there will be a total of six such machines in Noida and Greater Noida,” said Anil Singh, UPPCB regional officer.Earlier, UPPCB had installed two air quality monitoring machines — one at Amity University in Sector 125 and another at Sharda University in Greater Noida. “Once all the machines get operational, we will get a clear picture of the most polluted parts of the city,” Singh said.Ghaziabad, which already had one ambient air quality machine at Vasundhara, will have three more by February 15, the officials said.One of the new machines has been set up at Loni water-reservoir industrial area, while the others are coming up at Combined District Hospital at Sanjay Nagar and Gyankhand in Indirapuram.“After monitoring these machines, we will link them to CPCB,” said Ashok Tiwari, regional officer UPPCB in-charge of Ghaziabad and Greater Noida.Ghaziabad already has a system of transmitting its pollution data through LCD displays at various points of the city.
