Ghaziabad: Metro's Red Line extension gets nod for launch but with riders

  • | Thursday | 7th February, 2019

The 9.41-km route is entirely on an elevated platform with eight stations in Ghaziabad—Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon river and New Bus Stand. “We are given to understand that either the chief minister or even the Prime Minister could inaugurate the corridor. However, a final decision is to be conveyed to us by the state government,” said an official in the administration. All along the 9.41-km, nearly 400 pillars have been erected at a height between 10m to 12m from ground. The final completion cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 1,781.21 crore.

GHAZIABAD: The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) on Wednesday cleared the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Stand section of the Red Line for passenger operations but operations cannot be launched immediately as it has set some more conditions that need to be met. This comes a day after CMRS S K Pathak conducted an inspection of the 9.41km corridor, which will take the metro line to one of Ghaziabad’s busiest transit points.New Bus Stand will be only the second terminal station of Delhi metro in Ghaziabad after Vaishali on the Blue Line and is expected to lighten its burden as well as make the journey to a metro station shorter for a vast population living in and around Mohan Nagar and Raj Nagar. New Bus Stand will also give metro connectivity to people coming to Ghaziabad in buses from other parts of the district.“The CMRS on Wednesday gave clearance for commencing passenger operations on the Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda (Stand) metro line with some stipulations,” said Anuj Dayal, chief public relations officer, DMRC. “The specifications suggested by CMRS will take some time to comply with and after that the corridor will be ready for commissioning,” said Dayal. The GDA and district administration were tight-lipped on the possible inauguration date. “We will apprise the state government that the corridor is ready and it is for them to announce a date for its inauguration,” said a GDA official.Senior officials from the administration said they would prefer inauguration of the metro corridor to be clubbed with the opening of the civilian airport terminal at Hindon air base. “We are given to understand that either the chief minister or even the Prime Minister could inaugurate the corridor. However, a final decision is to be conveyed to us by the state government,” said an official in the administration. “Since work on civilian airport at Hindon air base is expected to be over by February 15, there would be no problem inaugurating the two projects the same day,” said the official. It was in June 2014 that GDA and DMRC signed an MoU to extend the currently operational Rithala–Dilshad Garden metro line to New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad. The 9.41-km route is entirely on an elevated platform with eight stations in Ghaziabad—Shaheed Nagar, Raj Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, Shyam Park, Mohan Nagar, Arthala, Hindon river and New Bus Stand. All along the 9.41-km, nearly 400 pillars have been erected at a height between 10m to 12m from ground. The trial on this corridor was started by DMRC in August last year. The approval from the Public Investment Board for the project came in December. The final completion cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 1,781.21 crore.
