  • | Saturday | 23rd February, 2019

This explains the inordinate delay. As per the new plan, the bridge will be 3-lane which will be 200 meter in length and 7.50 meter in width and it will cost GDA Rs 20 crore. The development agency has already earmarked the amount for its infrastructure fund.According to the bridge corporation officials, it will take three months to demolish the old structure, four months for laying foundation, two months for laying sub-structure and three months for constructing the super structure.“The work may extend up to 18 months under which we plan to finish the work,” said an official from UP Bridge Corporation. As of now, there are three bridges which are functional but barring the new one which connects Vasundhara via ROB, the other two are narrow and often lead to traffic jams. GHAZIABAD: The work on the Old Hindon Bridge will commence in March, twenty months after it was closed down on June 27 2017 after cracks were spotted in its pillars. The UP Bridge Corporation will carry out the work which will be funded by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and it will take 18 months to complete the work.“In March, the UP Bridge Corporation will start work on Old Hindon Bridge and it will take 18 months to complete the work,” said Kanchan Verma, vice chairperson, GDA.“The corporation has demanded Rs 30 lakh to make design and drawing of the bridge which will be released by the GDA shortly,” added Verma. The 180 metre bridge across Hindon river which connects the trans Hindon area with the old city is six decades old and on June 27 last year, it was declared unsafe after a portion of its left flank had sagged under the weight of continuous vehicular movement and as a result it had to be closed down.Since then, the GDA was in two minds whether to construct the bridge on its own or whether to hand over the construction work to PWD or UP Bridge Corporation and after a lot of deliberations, it was finally decided to entrust the job to the corporation.
