Ghaziabad: Man on car’s bonnet, techie keeps driving

But instead of coming out of the car, the man tried to flee the spot.

The driver of the i20, Delhi-based software engineer Rohan Mittal, only stopped after a biker intercepted the car. A policeman giving chase on a bike detained Mittal, who was later arrested and remanded in judicial custody.Police said around 11 am on Wednesday, Veerbhan Singh (42), was heading towards Noida Sector 62 after dropping a passenger in Vasundhara when the i20 car with a Delhi registration number hit his Tata Zest from the rear near Kanawani bridge. “I got out of my car and I asked the other car’s driver to come to the side of the road,” said Singh, a Noida resident. “By that time, a policeman had reached the spot. He instructed both of us to take our vehicles to the side of the road, as traffic was getting disrupted. But instead of coming out of the car, the man tried to flee the spot. I came in front of his vehicle to try and stop him. But he kept driving and hit me after which I fell on his car’s bonnet,” he added.Police said Mittal took a U-Turn near Kanawani bridge and drove towards Vasundhara. Sub-inspector Surendra Singh Yadav, in-charge of Kanawani police outpost, followed Mittal on his motorbike. But the car finally stopped after a biker came in front of Mittal’s vehicle. By that time a crowd had gathered in the area. The sub-inspector reached the spot and took Mittal in custody.Later, both Mittal and Singh were taken to Indirapuram police station where an FIR was lodged against Mittal on the basis of Singh’s complaint. Mittal has been booked under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 307 (attempt to murder) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of Rs 50).Mittal was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.The software engineer stays in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar along with his parents.On November last year, a 35-year-old man was allegedly driven around on the roof of a car for about 6 km in Sahibabad. The victim was identified as Rajesh Diwan, a resident of Delhi’s Pitampura. People captured the incident on their mobile phones in which a Zen Estilo was seen carrying Diwan on the roof while he was struggling to hang on to the car windows.
