Ghaziabad: Several vaccine centres in Ghaziabad have been reporting a shortage of doses over the past few days and turning away recipients. Sources said that of the 36 hospitals in the district that have been allowed to conduct the vaccination drive, only 29 could do so on Monday.

St. Josehph’s Hospital in Nandgram was among the few that could not administer vaccines to recipients in the absence of doses. Officials there said they had gone to the chief medical officer’s office to ask for vials, but to no avail. Over the past few days, there have been reports of people being turned away from both private and government vaccine centres. The worst-affected are the health centres in rural areas, which are being reportedly given three vials of 10 doses each. So, only 20-25 persons are being vaccinated here.

A senior health department official said they were in talks with higher authorities in Lucknow and were expected to get a fresh batch of vaccines by Tuesday evening. On Monday, a total of 11,246 recipients were vaccinated in Ghaziabad. In Noida, 10,327 people took the jabs in 83 centres. Among them was police commissioner Alok Singh and his wife, who took their second dose.
