Ghaziabad: A private Covid hospital in the city wrote to Meerut divisional commissioner late on Sunday evening claiming it had one hours’ oxygen supply left. Flores Hospital, Pratap Vihar, that has 100 beds, including 20 ICU beds, said it needed urgent supply for more than 80 patients.

Officials at the hospital wrote to Meerut divisional commissioner at around 8.45 pm stating that the 230 oxygen cylinders meant for them were not reaching the facility on a daily basis. Additional district magistrate (city) Shailendra Kumar Singh said senior officials were immediately sent to the hospital for an inspection. “Meanwhile, about 18 cylinders were sent to the hospital and 40 more would be sent in a while,” he said late at night.

While Dr Manoj Singh, director, Flores Hospital, could not be contacted, officials said the facility was being provided with the required amount of oxygen.
 

According to the official, the facility has admitted additional patients, resulting in the crisis. When contacted, officiating district magistrate Krishna Karunesh said: “The hospital was given the allotted amount. But the management admitted 10-12 extra patients and that led to the problem. The hospital staff were panicking. We gave them the additional amount of oxygen. No deaths have been reported.” 

ADM Singh added that one death was reported at the hospital at the time of inspection. But officials are checking if it was due to oxygen shortage, he said.
