New cases under 500 in Gzb, Noida’s lowest in May too

Ghaziabad/Noida: At 374 fresh Covid cases, Ghaziabad on Thursday saw the number of infections go below the 500 mark for the first time in May. For the past seven days, the daily Covid cases were below the 1,000 mark in the district. The sample positivity rate for May is 16.1%, while the overall positivity rate is 5.1%.

Ghaziabad/Noida: At 374 fresh Covid cases, Ghaziabad on Thursday saw the number of infections go below the 500 mark for the first time in May. For the past seven days, the daily Covid cases were below the 1,000 mark in the district. The sample positivity rate for May is 16.1%, while the overall positivity rate is 5.1%.

As many as 16 Covid deaths were also recorded on Thursday, taking the toll to 358. The district’s tally now stands 50,200. About 684 patients were discharged from hospitals and home isolation on Thursday. Altogether, 44,884 patients have recovered and discharged in the district. At present, there are 4,958 active cases.

Meanwhile, Gautam Budh Nagar recorded 747 new Covid 19 cases on Thursday, the lowest single-day tally this month. The number of recovered patients on Thursday was 987, which exceeded the total number of fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours. On the same day, the district reported 11 deaths, taking the toll to 361. This is also the first time in May that the active cases went below the 8,000 mark. The recovery rate of Gautam Budh Nagar now stands at 85.8% while the case fatality rate is 0.6%.

While Ghaziabad inoculated 2,643 people in the age bracket of 18-44 years on Thursday, 7,298 people got the jabs at 26 government centres in GB Nagar. On the same day, Ghaziabad also vaccinated 3,637 people above 45 years and 2,422 above 60 years at 60 centres. GB Nagar gave jabs to 1,789 people in the 60 plus category, 2,771 between 45-59 years, 2,638 in the 18-44 category, 73 HCWs and 36 FLWs on Thursday.

The Ghaziabad health department has just enough vaccines to carry out inoculation in 18-44 years category till Saturday and has demanded 50,000 doses from the state government. As far as vaccination of other categories is concerned, only about 10000 doses are available and would last till Friday.
