GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad administration held a meeting with representatives of private hospitals in the city on Saturday and urged them to help boost the vaccination drive by holding paid camps. Officials present at the meeting said district magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey had asked Max Hospital in Vaishali to start a programme under which 5,000 people in the 18-44 category could be inoculated in a day from June 1.

For other private hospitals, the administration will soon share a detailed list of banquets halls and schools where vaccination drives can be carried out by them. Vaccinations are being carried out at government centres. But due to a number of reasons, inoculations have come to a halt at private sites. So, I held a meeting with representatives of several private hospitals in this regard,” said Pandey.

“There are a couple of private hospitals like Max, Vaishali, which have been carrying out vaccinations. At the meeting, we explored the possibility of tapping these private hospitals to speed up the vaccination drive,” he added. In neighbouring Noida, the administration has taken the help of private hospitals to boost the vaccination drive. Fortis and Felix hospitals have partnered with RWAs to set up camps in several residential sectors of the city.

At the Saturday meeting, the hospital representatives were told about a number of locations where they could set up camps. “Max Hospital will be provided with space enough to vaccinate 5,000 people in a day. The officials and representatives of the hospitals have surveyed possible locations. As of now, the likely places are Radha Soami Satsang ground in Morta and DPS School in Vasundhara. It is for the hospitals to decide on the feasibility of the locations,” the DM said.

Dr Gaurav Agarwal of Max Hospital in Vaishali said, “The administration wants the drive to start from June 1. But this looks unlikely as only a few days are left. However, we are open to the idea of setting up camps and conveyed this to the administration during the meeting. Meeting the target of 5,000 doses daily will depend on the availability of vaccines.”
