73-year-old dies as truck jumps EPE divider, crashes into his car

Ghaziabad: A 73-year-old man died and his wife (65) was injured as their car collided with a speeding truck, which jumped a divider as its driver lost control of the vehicle and came onto the other carriageway of the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, police said on Thursday.Govindpuram resident Charan Singh and his wife Kamlesh were headed to Patiala via Kundali with their son and daughter-in-law around 6.45pm on Wednesday in a Honda Amaze when they met with the accident.While Singh died before he could get medical treatment, Kamlesh is still under treatment with severe injuries, police said.Muradnagar SHO Mukesh Solanki said the truck was driving on the opposite lane and was on its way from Kundali to Ghaziabad. The driver fled after the accident, but we have impounded the vehicle. Our teams are working to identify and nab him, he said.Police suspect the driver was speeding and had lost control of the truck. He ploughed into the divider and came to the other carriageway when the oncoming car crashed into it.Charan Singhs son Mukesh, a junior engineer in Patiala, was driving his parents to the Punjab city as his mother Kamlesh was unwell.
