Cop & homeguard among three booked for thrashing couple, sexually harassing woman

GHAZIABAD: Three people, including a constable and a homeguard, have been booked for allegedly physically and sexually harassing a couple last month near a temple in Kotwali area. The trio also forced them to pay up before releasing them.The FIR named constable Digamber and homeguard Rakesh Kumar, while the third person remains unidentified. The woman, a 21-year-old resident of Noida, said in her complaint that she had gone to Sai Upvan temple with her fiancé on September 16. Around noon, the accused allegedly approached them on a police bike and started to misbehave with her. They also threatened her fiancé with dire consequences if he did not give them cash, said the complaint. When the couple refused to pay up, Kumar allegedly slapped them. The couple said sorry, but he allegedly went on to sexually harass the woman. The accused held me and my fiancé for three hours and left after taking Rs 1,000 through Paytm. During that time, the accused touched my private parts several times, tried to kiss me, and said vulgar things, said the complaint.The woman then went to her house in the Bisrakh area while her fiancé went to Bulandshahr. But on September 19, the accused called the woman, demanding a physical relationship with her. When she refused, the accused threatened to come to her home and talk to her parents to get her wedding cancelled.On September 21, the woman dialled 181. Delhi Police received her call and transferred it to Ghaziabad. Later, local police contacted the woman. Learning that, Digamber visited the woman at her house on September 22 and returned the money.Nimish Patel, ACP of Kotwali, said the victim submitted a written complaint against the three men on September 28. An FIR was filed against the trio under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 354A (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Kotwali police station.The accused are absconding. We are trying to identify the third person. We have formed a team to nab all three, said Patel.According to police data, there were 346 crimes against women, including 143 murder and five molestation cases, from January 1 to May 31. In 2022, the number was 305, including six murder and three molestation cases.On September 28, Ghaziabad police arrested a 34-year-old former CRPF constable for allegedly pushing a 32-year-old woman to her death in front of a car. At the time, she was allegedly giving him chase after he made objectionable signals at her from his bike.On August 27, a 19-year-old woman from Jharkhand, working as a guard at a society in Crossings Republik to fund her higher studies, died after she accused a supervisor of sexually assaulting her in his office. Later, he was arrested under rape charges.(The victims identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
